SAVED not SLAVED

SAVED NOT SLAVED

From my perspective, I see the colonisation
of Africa as a blessing and not bane. If you
believe or think otherwise, just take a minute
to carefully read the art piece below.

SAVED NOT SLAVED
Innocently we sat round the fire.
Listening to the tales of our fathers.
Dressed in clothes of leather and fine feathers,
Our pale faces brightened by the fire.

Scare embraced us
And sends shivers down our spine
As we listened to the adventures
Of the “White Demons” who invaded our land.

They were strange creatures;
We were told,
With shiny bright skin
Just like gold.
They raped our mothers;
We were told,
And cunningly stole
All our gold.

Our eyes reddened.
Our hearts burdened.
Our sorrows worsened.
Our hearts hardened.

We hated them; those white demons
From the core of our hearts.
We waged a war only to realize;
We were wrong all along.

They were human and not demons.
They have hearts just like us.
They gave love, they gave life.
They were us in a different color.

All they wanted was to teach us
CIVILIZATION, so they can lead us
To uphold their name and that of ours
So we can be known as one of theirs.

We were slaved but we were saved
For now we have learnt from their ways
To stand as one, to win the fight
The fight against ILLITERACY.

…GOD BLESSED AFRICA…
